The National Identification Authority, NIA, has announced plans to start the registration of 6 to 14-year-old Ghanaians for the Ghana Card in September this year.
The announcement comes after the Authority successfully registered 18 million Ghanaians above the age of 15, paving the way for them to shift focus to those under the age of 15.
The Executive Secretary of the NIA, Prof. Kenneth Agyeman Attafuah, has indicated that the initiative has already been piloted in the Eastern and Central regions and is now prepared for a nationwide rollout.
“We have started looking at Ghanaians aged between 6 and 14 years because the mass registration and the continuous registration captured Ghanaians 15 years and above.”
According to the NIA, the decision to extend the Ghana Card registration to younger age groups marks a significant step in ensuring that all citizens are included in the national identification system.
