The Bank of Ghana recently celebrated the success of its inaugural eCedi Hackathon in Accra, honoring the outstanding achievements of forward-thinking participants. In a thrilling competition that commenced on October 6, 2023, and concluded with an award ceremony on December 15, 2023, the event showcased groundbreaking solutions leveraging the e-Cedi, with three standout winners earning significant recognition.
The top accolade went to “Forward Titans,” recognized as the overall best in the eCedi Hackathon, securing a remarkable prize of GHS500,000. Nokofio claimed the first runner-up position, receiving GHS300,000, while Pay code secured the second runner-up spot with a prize of GHS200,000.
Speaking at the event, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia expressed enthusiasm on how recent technological infrastructure is being leveraged on to tackle developmental challenges.
Dr. Ernest Addison, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming response from innovative minds and highlighted the crucial role played by the competition in driving the adoption of eCedi. The hackathon attracted a diverse pool of creators, developers, and entrepreneurs, with 88 innovation concept notes received on October 20, 2023.
The competition, held in collaboration with technology partner EMTECH Solutions, aimed to explore and promote the functionalities and versatility of the e-Cedi. Dr. Addison emphasized the importance of fostering financial inclusion and the positive impact of FinTech channels on removing barriers to micro-credit and facilitating affordable inward remittance services.
