The minimum amount of funds required in a Blocked Account to enable international students to apply for a German Embassy student visa has been revised, the Embassy has announced.
Even though the majority of study programs in Germany don’t charge tuition, students who wish to pursue a degree in Germany still need to budget for it. The foundation of that budget is the Blocked Account, which should have a minimum amount of money set by the Embassy before one can apply for a German Embassy student visa.
The old Minimum required
The old Blocked Account minimum sum requirement to apply for a German Embassy student visa was €11,208, as of February 2024. The student may only access up to €934 every month while this amount is held in their bank account for a year.
The new minimum sum required
The new minimum amount required in the Blocked Account before a student can apply for a German Embassy student visa, as announced by the Embassy, is €11,904 per year and students can access their funds up to €992 each month.
The newly revised Blocked account minimum requirement takes effect from September 1, 2024, and any international student applying for a German Embassy student visa must make sure that the Blocked Account they submit to the Embassy for their visa application has the newly revised minimum sum required in it before their application can be processed.
Consequently, if an applicant’s Blocked Account does not contain the new minimum funds required in their account, they will not be issued a visa to proceed to study in Germany.
