The release date for the BECE Results 2024 remains a significant concern for many candidates who sat for the exam this year. BECE results 2024 release date

There have been several challenges surrounding the 2024 BECE exams, which could potentially delay the release of the results. Initially, there were reports that WAEC considered postponing the exams due to unpaid debts owed by the government. However, the exams were eventually conducted as planned.

Post-exam reports indicated that WAEC postponed the marking of BECE scripts from August to September, also due to financial constraints. According to Peter Nortsu-Kotoe, Ranking Member of the Education Committee in Parliament, “WAEC had to postpone the marking of BECE scripts from August to September because they don’t have the funds to coordinate and complete the marking process. They still owe WAEC for the BECE, and we are urging the government to settle these debts so that marking can be carried out on time.”

As a result of the delayed marking, it is projected that the 2024 BECE results will be released in October 2024. However, an exact date in October has not yet been confirmed. In the meantime, school selection for 2024 BECE candidates began on August 28, 2024.

The BECE script marking process

You wouldn’t want to spend years preparing for your first major exam, giving it your all, only for someone to carelessly mark your script. That’s why BECE script markers undergo a strict selection process to ensure they follow proper guidelines.

Those chosen to mark BECE scripts go through the following procedures:

• A three-day training programme is normally organized by WAEC – the body that organizes exams for BECE and WASSCE candidates – to educate those who will be engaged in marking the scripts.
• The selected script markers get the opportunity to learn the protocols of script marking to ensure they mark students’ scripts efficiently.
• After the training programme, the scripts with marking schemes are then given to the selected script marker and documentation is done.
• Script markers are then made to confirm the number of scripts they have been given.
• WAEC then issues a submission date for the script markers to bring back the marked scripts.
• Chief examiners then go through to ensure script markers followed the protocols in marking the scripts.
• If any errors are detected after the crosscheck by chief examiners, the respective script markers are instructed to rectify the errors and resubmit the scripts affected.
• When the chief examiners are satisfied that each marked script is without errors, the mark for each candidate is then recorded in the attendance sheet provided and the grade the candidate scored is attached to the mark.

Procedure for releasing BECE results

After your scripts have been marked the following procedures are followed before you get your results:

• Once all verifications are complete and each student’s results are confirmed to accurately reflect their performance, WAEC uploads the provisional results to the WAEC Results Portal.
• The examination body WAEC then announces a date for the official release of the results.
• WAEC then releases results checkers to vendors, which candidates can purchase and use to check their BECE Results 2024.
• The results are then released to the school authorities who submitted the candidates, and students can later collect their certificates from their respective schools.
