Starlink Kits activated outside regions they are sold could attract an 'Outside Region Fee'

Ghanaian internet users are already looking forward to acquiring Starlink Kits after it was recently reported that the company will start its satellite internet service operations in the country by the end of this month. There is something to consider, though, as the company has announced the possibility of an ‘Outside Region Fee’ for anyone planning to buy its kits outside of their region.

There is always the tendency to get some of these products from other regions, or territories where they are perceived to be considerably cheaper and more affordable, and send them to other regions for use. Some agents also take advantage of the considerably lower prices in some areas, buy such products in bulk, and resell them to people in different regions.

Providers of satellite television services, MultiChoice’s Ghana branch recently announced that they were going to clamp down on piracy and decoders brought into the country from other countries, indicating how such practice is not countenanced.

Starlink is instituting measures to curb this practice by announcing that there will be extra charges known as ‘Outside Region Fees’ for anyone choosing that route to get Starlink Kits for their use.

On Starlink’s support page, the company stated that “Starlink Kits activated outside of the region they were originally sold in are subject to an “Outside Region Fee”. If you purchased a Starlink Kit from an unauthorized reseller, it is possible that the Outside Region Fee may apply to your order.”

Consumers can avoid this ‘Outside Region Fee’ by purchasing Starlink Kits from Starlink.com, or from authorized dealers in their regions. The ‘Outside Region Fee’ may total up to an extra $300 and will be applied upon activation of a Starlink account.
