The MTN iPRO Amber 5s Pro is an entry-level smartphone. The phone runs on Android 8.1 (Go edition) and comes with pre-installed useful apps.
Budget or affordable phones exist because not everyone can afford a premium smartphone or truly needs it. Before you consider buying a budget phone, you should know that it will not be as sophisticated and extra fast in performance as compared to mid-range or flagship premium phone. However, these budget phones try to give somewhat similar features but not at the ultimate performance of such premium phones.
In this article, I will dive more into what the phone is offering you aside the goodies MTN has promised. Hopefully, we both can agree if this is worth the investment.

Display, battery life
Display
The MTN iPRO Amber 5s Pro uses a 5.0″ qHD TFT display. It has a screen resolution of 960*480, even though not the best it is ideal for an entry-level. My experience watching Youtube videos was fine even though not the best. However, you have reasonable screen-estate to navigate apps on the phone. The truth is you can’t expect too much from an entry-level device.
Battery life
A 2000mAh battery powers the MTN iPRO Amber 5s Pro – I would wish it has been 4000mAh. It took 100 minutes to move from flat to fully charge on MTN iPRO Amber 5s Pro. An hour charge should get you somewhere around 80%.
For heavy usage, this device can last over 15 hours with a single charge.
In order to extend the lifespan of your battery, try to keep it between 30% to 80%. Don’t overcharge it above 80% and don’t also allow it to run down below 30%. Thank me later.
User interface, features, security, performance
User interface
User experience is satisfactory, but this is expected of an entry-level. If you haven’t used a smartphone before, this will surely give you a pleasant experience. But for users who have had a good share of using smartphones, this will certainly not be idle. However, this is better than using a feature phone or a yam.
Features
There are no special features worth mentioning, unfortunately. This is an entry-level phone, don’t expect too much!
Security
In the area of security, the PIN code option is available to secure your smartphone.
Performance
This is an entry-level device, I must reiterate. To enjoy using this phone, I will advise you to install the Lite version of apps you may want to use. And try to install apps you need so you don’t cause the phone to lag due over-demand of memories resources by the apps on the phone.
There’s a dedicated microSD card slot in addition to the dual SIM slots. In other words, you may have two SIMs in there and enjoy expandable storage at the same time.
What do you get from MTN Ghana for buying this device?
MTN subscribers who purchase the phone will get:
- Free MTN Sim card
- Enjoy free 1GB data for 6 months and one hour free YouTube streaming every day.
Alternatives, pros and cons, price, verdict

+ Standard design
+ 4G enabled
+ Good speakers for an entry-level
Cons

+ No fast charging
MTN iPRO Amber 5s Pro Price
The MTN iPRO Amber 5s Pro is selling at GHS 275. This phone may be out of stock, and this can still not be it’s price in 2022 and beyond.
Our Verdict
Among entry-level budget phones we available in Ghana, the MTN iPRO Amber 5s Pro stands out tall as the MOST affordable entry-level phone with 4G.
I would have wished for a much bigger battery to extend the battery life of this device further as that is one of the major strengths of most entry-level phones. However, the 2000mAh will give you an average of 1.5 days of battery life.
All in all, the phone is affordable, gets the job done by giving you access to the digital world in the power of your palm.
How long will it last?
The MTN iPRO Amber 5s Pro has no water resistance, so it won’t play well with water. Thankfully, it’s not made of glass, so you don’t need to worry about shattering both sides of the phone (just one).
This phone will likely last you two years if not three before the battery begins to deteriorate.
Who should buy this?
Certainly, you should! Great price with basic features to get the job done.
Should you buy it?
Yes, good for the price of GHS 275. Other phones within this category cost more or have slightly lesser specs. And you won’t find any entry-level phone on the Ghanaian market with 4G selling at this price.
