Flutterwave merchants in Nigeria to accept American Express cards for payments; service to be available in Ghana soon

American Express cards for payments are now accepted by Flutterwave’s online merchants in Nigeria, the company has announced. Flutterwave merchants in Ghana, where the company recently received an Enhanced PSP license from the Bank of Ghana, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda will soon be able to utilize this service as well.

According to the fintech company, this feature enables Nigerian American Express cardholders to pay e-commerce companies directly through Flutterwave.

The partnership that enables merchants to reach a new client base made up of American Express Card Members in Africa and across the world was praised by Olugbenga Agboola, founder and CEO of Flutterwave.

“This is one of our initiatives to ensure that more people across the world can pay using Flutterwave in Africa. We understand the value of providing shoppers with payment methods that work for them, as well as helping businesses to expand their customer bases,” he said.

Through the arrangement, American Express’s global network is expanded, and cardholders may now purchase a wider range of products and services at more locations throughout Africa.

Briana Wilsey, vice president and general manager of global network services EMEA at American Express, said: “American Express continues to expand in Africa to enable greater payment choice for businesses and consumers.”

“Through the agreement with Flutterwave, a trusted payment provider, we are giving e-commerce merchants in Nigeria the opportunity to reach American Express card members around the world. The collaboration is a win-win because it also increases the number of places where our card Members can use their cards in Nigeria,” he stressed.

This is a significant development that will ensure seamless transactions with many countries on the African continent set to join in soon.
