The British Council has launched applications for the Gender Equality Partnerships 2024-2025, aiming to unite higher and further education institutions from the UK and Ghana in addressing critical gender equality challenges in education.
Since 2021, the British Council’s Gender Equality Partnerships project has been driving systemic change across nations. The 2024-2025 cycle, now open in Ghana, is focused on four key areas to promote gender equality and systemic transformation.
These include preventing violence against women and girls, with a special emphasis on making higher and further education institutions safe spaces for women; addressing the underrepresentation of women in leadership roles within these institutions; improving access and tackling subject segregation, particularly in STEM, and fostering STEM-related learning; and strengthening pathways to employment for women graduates from higher and further education.
This initiative involves developing or enhancing gender equality policies and strategies, researching and addressing barriers to career progression for women, improving employment outcomes, and creating policies to prevent and respond to gender-based violence.
Additionally, it supports initiatives that help women and girls excel in STEM fields. The British Council described the initiative as a significant step toward advancing gender equality in education in Ghana, reaffirming its commitment to empowering women and girls through education and fostering lasting, positive change.
