This community initiative in Vietnam turns e-bikes into power generators to help small businesses

Electricity is a vital aspect of life, especially for business owners. However, power
outages still occur in Vietnam, even in major cities. When demand is high, the
system has a chance of overloading. For small businesses, power outages are not
only inconvenient, but also result in loss of customers or goods. This causes a big
threat to the livelihood of Vietnam’s small businesses.

Recognizing this issue, a group of local e-bikers came up with the idea of
Re:Charge – turning the batteries on their e-bikes into ‘mobile power generators’.
The group consists of e-bikers of the local brand Dat Bike, a brand that has
always cared about their local communities.

Now, Re:Charge has a hotline service for small businesses in Vietnam’s largest
city, Ho Chi Minh City. Small business owners such as street food shops, tattoo
parlors, grocery stores, etc can contact the hotline and a Dat Biker will quickly
arrive at the location to turn his e-bike into an emergency power generator. The
e-bike can generate power for one to three hours, enough time for the blackout to
pass. This way, the owners are saved from any loss of business.

But how can 1 e-bike power a convenience store during a blackout? Dat Bike’s
Weaver++ model features a powerful engine that allows the bike to travel up to
200 km on a single charge. Large power capacity and short charging times make
this bike suitable for transforming into a ‘mobile power generator’.

This initiative truly stems from the generosity among the Vietnamese people
towards each other. Launched right before the Lunar New Year holiday, the Dat
Bikers understand that this is a challenging period for many small businesses.
During and after the Lunar New Year, the owners not only bear the pressure of
survival but also hope for a prosperous new year.

Recently, Re:Charge has been able to support several small businesses through
their hotline, including multiple coffee shops, bakeries, and also a laundry shop.
The service will continue to operate, with Dat Bikers joining hands to bring
warmth and care to many during this season.
